What's On My Bookshelf

Ten Books on Writing

  1. Robert's Rules of Writing
  2. Between the Lines
  3. Getting the Words Right
  4. Stephen King's On Writing
  5. Self Editing for Fiction Writers
  6. No Plot, No Problem
  7. The Portable MFA in Creative Writing
  8. The Novelist's Boot Camp
  9. Writing the Breakout Novel
  10. Your First Novel
These books are not listed in any particular order. The best one to read is Stephen King's book. The rest are full of similar information written by people who have written little else. I can't say that I've changed anything about the way I write from reading any of these books. Quite a few published authors claim the best way to learn how to write is to read a lot of books and write as much as you can as often as you can. I am still doing both, and do not consider myself a successful writer yet.
